All over the beach were these piles of sand which held together remarkably well when the waves washed over them. A tour guide from a bus that showed up told us that was the remains of the sand after worms had digested what it could get from it (well, his first answer was "worm poop!"). He also told us the sand was purer after they were done with it than when they started.
