DavDroid Configuration, tells you how to setup various calendars and contact servers (I use Owncloud and while I've bought a couple apps off Google Play I've started using the open-source DavDroid on other people's phones.) Step one is getting an SSL cert, though using a self-signed SSL certificate under Apache works just fine.
