With all of the travel I was involved with in 2002 I wasn't getting outside nearly as much as I wanted to. So when I got the invitation to spend a couple nights at the Montgomery Pass Yurts I jumped on it. Unfortunately I've never cross-country skied before, so Greg decided he'd snowshoe with me. There were seven skiers and us two snowshoeing but it worked out fine. The last day when heading back to the car we thought we'd take a shortcut and try a more direct route. This wasn't as smart of an idea as you might think, breaking trail for several miles in waist deep snow is not an easy thing to do, we arrived at the car a few minutes in front of everyone else, in spite of the fact we had a several hour head start...
