Since moving back to Colorado I had been itching to get back to Southern Utah (specifically the Moab area.) With a long Thanksgiving weekend coming up Jane and I decided this was a good time to get lost in the desert.
We booked a room at the Redstone Inn using their Package Deals page. Since we were staying for three nights but wanted our own time too we opted for a single "adventure", which was horseback riding at the Red Cliffs Lodge on that Saturday morning.
On Thanksgiving day itself we got up, packed the car, and headed out of town. Since the drive to Moab is only 5 hours from Denver we made it in plenty of time to catch the sunset on Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. Day two we drove to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park (the prettiest part of the park in my mind) for a hike out to Druid Arch. Saturday was the horeseback ride, then some time in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands, heading back into town via the Schaeffer Trail (4WD road, but not that bad, I bet you could get a Subaru along it easy enough.) The final day was spent driving around Arches National Park, hiking out to Landscape Arch, then driving back to Denver (the final day was also 30 degrees, so we didn't spend a lot of time out of the car...) All in all a great trip, if you haven't been to Moab yet hopefully some of these photos will inspire you to head out there.
