This comment on Hacker News helped me get my Linux Mint installs upgraded. Mint isn't particularly welcoming to upgrade - their official position used to be "don't upgrade, reinstall fresh" which is too much of a pain for me. They may have updated their position, though since it's based on Debian it's easy enough to do what's shown here.
